In Australia the cable company Foxtel employ an encryption method called Newscrypt. Because of this encryption, it prevents users without a decoder box or 'smartcard' to view the signal. However with the advent of more powerful computer processors, it has become possible to use a computer and compatible TV Tuner card to 'decode' this signal. While the method described in our tutorial does not produce 'perfect' decryption, it at the very least, offers an insight into the possible potential of the software and of course hardware. The beauty of this 'system' or whatever you want to call it, is you don't need to already have a Foxtel subscription. For those who use Telstra Bigpond Cable (not ADSL), or still have an active cable to the home itself, can decode the signal providing you have the equipment provided. |
